How this works
Tile area = width × height
Tiles needed = (room area ÷ tile area) × (1 + wastage %)
10% wastage is a common default for a straightforward rectangular layout; increase it to 15-20% for diagonal patterns, herringbone, or a room with many corners.
Buy all boxes from the same production batch (check the lot number) — colour can vary slightly between batches.
Larger tiles need fewer total pieces but more waste per cut, since a single cut tile is discarded even if only a sliver was trimmed off.

How much extra tile should I buy?
10% is a reasonable default for a simple rectangular room. Increase to 15% or more for diagonal layouts, small or oddly shaped rooms, or a pattern that wastes more per cut.
Should I round up to full boxes?
Yes — this calculator rounds the final count up to whole boxes, since suppliers do not sell partial boxes and having a spare tile or two is useful for future repairs.
Does grout width matter for this calculation?
Not significantly for an estimate — grout lines are thin relative to a tile's area. For a precise count on a large expensive job, add the grout width to each tile dimension before entering it.
