How this works
Grade so far = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ(weight)
Final needed = (target − grade so far × (1 − w)) ÷ w
where w = the final's weight as a decimal

Weights need not add to 100 while a course is running — the average uses whatever has been graded so far.
A final worth 40% can move a course grade a long way; one worth 10% barely can.
If the mark you need is above 100, the target is out of reach with that final alone.
How do I work out a weighted grade?
Multiply each score by its weight, add those together, then divide by the total weight used so far. A 90% worth 30% contributes 27 points out of a possible 30.
What do I need on the final exam?
Subtract what your existing work already contributes from your target, then divide by the final’s weight. Switch to the "What do I need?" tab and it does this for you.
Why can the answer be over 100%?
Because the target is no longer reachable from that final alone. Either the goal is too high for the marks already banked, or the final carries too little weight.
